Intro to CFAUMUNA

Under the leadership and advocacy of Mr. Yuan Shibin, the late professor of Dept. of English and International Studies at China Foreign Affairs University, and Mr. Xiong Zhiyong, a graduate faculty member of China Foreign Affairs University (CFAU), China’s first Model United Nations for university students was held in the University in 1995. This marked the first time that an MUN conference was held in China, hence its far-reaching significance.

In 2001, the China Foreign Affairs University Model United Nations Association (CFAUMUNA) was founded by a group of students at the University. Since 2002, our association has successfully held the nationwide “Beijing Model United Nations” (BMUN) multiple times, which has become the flagship conference in China with its high standards and academic level. In 2017, the former “Beijing Model United Nations” (BMUN) was officially renamed as “Beijing International Model United Nations” (BIMUN), to seize the opportunity to set the platform as an international conference and enhance its essence of innovation-driven development.

Hailed as the “Whampoa Military Academy” of CFAU, the Model United Nations Association, with the constant efforts of Model UN participants from generation to generation, has gradually developed into the most elite student organization in the university. Led by the China Communist Youth League CFAU Committee, the association is currently comprised of a Secretary General and around 140 members from both undergraduate and exchange programs.

The Association not only hosts the yearly Beijing International Model United Nations, but also cultivates participants for domestic and international Model UN activities as well as UN-related events. It advocates strengthening cooperation with respective UN agencies and creating opportunities for knowing the UN and working for the UN for more students.
